Motor House is a premiere multi-use arts building in Station North that includes a performance space, gallery, artist studios, and nonprofit arts organization offices. Renovated from a historic building in the area with a myriad of past tenants, Motor House is looking to revitalize the arts district in north Baltimore.
YDI was commissioned to name the project, concept the brand and apply it to sign and screen. The name recalls the building’s local history as a car dealership. Historic typography, advertising and signage from the early 1900s led the inspiration for the identity, with colors being pulled directly from car paint swatches of the era. Automotive ephemera, related accessories, rubber-backed wayfinding and asphalt-like textures offer context and sense of place.
