The minimal, modern finishes of the Philip A. Zaffere Library on Stevenson University’s North Campus offer opportunities to contrast with colorful accents in interior signage. This building is the first stage in the implementation of a YDI-designed campus-wide signage system.

The library features large arrays of windows that celebrate the play of natural light throughout the building. YDI added color to select panels to give an overall mosaic effect that further enhances the space by casting colorful shadows over the course of the day.

The goal for this family of signage was simplicity and functionality, while retaining distinct elements of Stevenson’s brand. To achieve this, YDI designed color-blocked signs with sections that wrap corners, and brought the university’s signature accent of bright green into play for arrows, glyphs, and more.

Directional signage in the library uses corner-wrapping panels in a different way. And yet, they feel familiar and instantly recognizable as part of the same sign family. The flexible and expandable system of rectangular modules used across interior signage recalls the variably-sized panels in the library’s colorful windows.
